Movie Game Spain was born in the spring of 2019 in a tiny office above a vintage poster shop on Calle de la Gran Vía, the most cinematic street in Madrid. Our founders — three film students and a back-end developer who could not stop quoting Almodóvar — wanted to build something playful that paid tribute to the films that had shaped them. Not a betting product. Not a serious commercial venture. Just a place where reels could feel like little stage curtains, and where every match could feel like the moment the orchestra finally swells.

We spent the first year drawing symbols by hand, scoring loops on an old upright piano, and arguing about which decade of Spanish cinema deserved its own theme first. We released the earliest version of our reel game to friends and family in October 2020, with one set of icons and exactly one looping soundtrack. People played, sent us notes, and asked for more themes — Western, sci-fi, classic noir, romance under the Andalusian sun. So we kept building, one theme at a time, with the same rule we still follow today: the platform stays free, no real money is ever involved, and every screen has to feel like a love letter to a film we adore.

Today our team has grown to twenty-four people across design, illustration, sound and engineering, but our pace is still deliberately small. We release a new themed set every couple of months instead of every week. We avoid dark patterns: no daily streaks designed to make you anxious, no flashing pop-ups, no endless notifications. We want our games to be the equivalent of a quiet cinema visit — something you choose to do because it makes you feel something, and which you can leave behind the moment the lights come back up.

We also believe that even a free product carries a responsibility. That is why we link prominently to GambleAware and GamCare, why we display our disclaimer in plain language, and why every single page of this site reminds visitors that no real money is at stake. Cinema, for us, is about wonder, not risk. We hope, when you press play on one of our reel sets, that for a few minutes you feel a little of that same wonder we felt the first time we sat in the dark and watched a story unfold.
